Bonjou!

Greetings family and friends and welcome to our Haiti ABST experience!  We are thrilled to have you along on the journey.  Although spring break seems a ways off, we are hard at work researching Haitian culture, growing as a community, and attempting (with little success thus far) to learn Creole, the native language.  I am excited to be taking part in such a wonderful opportunity offered by Gannon University's Center for Social Concerns.

In Haiti we will be partnering with Outreach to Haiti, an organization that bridges the gap between the United States and Haiti. We will rotate between a few service sites, assisting at a medical clinic, working with a scholarship program, and visiting an orphanage for children affected by HIV/AIDS. This experience is bound to be life changing and transforming. We are all excited to expand our world view, to make a difference in Haiti, and to form relationships with the Haitian people.

I would like to take a moment to introduce the members of our trip. We will be taking turns blogging our experiences, feelings, and reflections leading up to our departure and during our time in Haiti. My name is Meredith and I am a sophomore physician assistant major from Canton, Ohio. My teammates and companions on this journey are:

Tyler- sophomore, physician assistant
Jasiris- junior, biology
Jenny- senior, biology
Rachael- sophomore, nursing
Kate- senior, physician assistant
Leah- sophomore, early childhood and special education
Paige- sophomore, physician assistant
Laura- Director, Center for Social Concerns
Steve- Dean, Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences

Thank you for your interest in our service experience! Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.

Orevwa,

Meredith
